The Embassy of Romania in Egypt celebrated Romanian Armed Forces Day in Cairo with a reception hosted by the Office of the Defence Attaché. The event brought together numerous representatives of the Egyptian authorities, the diplomatic corps accredited in Cairo, military attachés, journalists, prominent local figures, and senior representatives of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
The event opened with remarks by H.E. Ms. Olivia Toderean, Ambassador of Romania to the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Commander Valentin Strîmbeschi, Defence, Military, Air and Naval Attaché.
In her speech, Ambassador Toderean expressed her gratitude to the men and women serving under the Romanian flag with professionalism and dedication, both at home and on international missions. Reflecting on developments in the Black Sea region and the Middle East, with far-reaching global implications, she underscored the need to step up efforts to promote peace and strengthen resilience at both state and societal levels. She highlighted Romania’s commitments within NATO and the EU to strengthen and modernise its deterrence and defence capabilities. She also reaffirmed Romania’s unwavering support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, alongside renewed efforts to ensure global food security.
Romanian-Egyptian Military Cooperation
The Defence Attaché’s address highlighted the deeply interconnected nature of today’s global security environment, where conflicts, even when geographically localised, have repercussions worldwide. In this context, he emphasised Romanian-Egyptian military cooperation as a reflection of the two countries’ shared commitment to promoting security, prosperity and lasting stability in our respective regions and beyond.
As Romania and Egypt mark 120 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, military cooperation is emerging as a priority area within the broader framework of bilateral relations.
