At a diplomatic reception marking Spain’s National Day in Cairo, Ambassador Sergio Román Carranza Förster praised the historic and rapidly expanding partnership between Spain and Egypt, reaffirming Madrid’s commitment to advancing shared goals in peace, economic growth, and regional stability.

Highlighting the shared vision and strategic alignment between the two nations across the Mediterranean, Ambassador Foster stated during the reception that Spain and Egypt go hand in hand in their defense of international law, multilateralism, diplomacy, and the peaceful settlement of disputes. Beyond often-repeated statements and mere words, he emphasized that both nations demand facts, while warmly commending Egypt for its wise, mediating, and stabilizing role across the region.

The Spanish ambassador underscored that since elevating bilateral relations to a full strategic partnership, both countries have successfully translated political goodwill into concrete institutional momentum. He pointed to recent high-level reciprocal visits to Madrid by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk, and Supply Minister Sherif Farouk, alongside new agreements signed in extradition, judicial cooperation, circular labor migration, and triangular sustainable development projects.

This expanding momentum encompasses rising trade and investments across strategic sectors, robust defense cooperation—highlighted by Spanish participation in the El Alamein Air Show—and expanding academic ties, including the upcoming South-South Summit in Cairo organized by IE University. Furthermore, Ambassador Förster noted that Egypt remains a dream destination for Spanish travelers, supported by 18 active Spanish archaeological missions working across Egyptian heritage sites and an expanding presence of the Instituto Cervantes.

Representing Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and the Egyptian government, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy conveyed warm congratulations on Spain’s National Day, praising the historical depth and mutual respect defining Egyptian-Spanish relations. Fathy affirmed that the strategic partnership established between President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez serves as a vital foundation for structured cooperation across economic, diplomatic, and cultural fields. Recalling historic milestones, including the state visit of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia to Cairo and Luxor, Fathy reiterated Egypt’s commitment to further deepening strategic alignment and cultural exchange with Madrid.
