A Romanian Voice Heard Beyond Borders: Atlas News Romania’s First Year

On 7 October 2025, Atlas News Romania set out as an independent Romanian publication dedicated to geopolitics, foreign policy and strategic analysis. We sought to bring Romania’s perspective into an international conversation in which our region is often viewed from a distance. We had no guarantee that our voice would travel far. We did, however, believe that this perspective deserved to be expressed with rigour—and that we would have to earn our place through hard work.

One year after publishing our first article, Atlas News Romania is read in diplomatic circles and has built a loyal readership across several regions of the world. Our analysis and interviews have reached readers from Washington to Brussels and from Cairo to other capitals. This presence has been built through hard work, attention to detail and a commitment to treating complex subjects with the care they deserve.

What’s behind every article

A published article is only the visible part of a much longer process. Before a sentence is written, documents must be read, sources checked and questions carefully framed. Before an interview, there are messages to send, replies to await and a responsibility to represent the interviewee’s words faithfully. Before the final text reaches readers, it undergoes translation and review, alongside editorial decisions made with care.

That is how Atlas News Romania’s first year has been built: through the work of the newsroom and the persistence of contributors who have documented issues relevant to readers in Romania and abroad. Sometimes the results are immediate. At other times, a reply is delayed, a detail needs to be checked again or an article requires further revision. Publishing takes patience and consistency, especially when a subject cannot be reduced to a simple explanation.

This work also reflects the responsibility we assumed from the outset: to keep Romania’s perspective present in the international conversation and to give readers the context they need to understand events.

Atlas News cited and republished beyond Romania’s borders

In its first year, Atlas News Romania’s work was cited, attributed or republished by publications and institutions in Romania and abroad. Ahram Online cited and linked to an Atlas News article on relations between Egypt and Romania. Mediafax, Evenimentul Zilei and Libertatea attributed information to our publication. Foreign embassies have also republished our articles. The Islamic Organization for Food Security explicitly acknowledged Atlas News’s contribution, while an interview conducted by the publication was included in the GEGSLA newsletter. The official website of the Royal House republished an Atlas News article in full.

TRT World also publicly referenced an Atlas Diplomatic interview on Romania–Türkiye relations and energy security in the Black Sea. The Atlas Diplomatic series also featured an interview with Manuel Muñiz, Rector of IE University.

Citations, attributions and republications are not the same, but each shows that our work has travelled beyond our own channels. It has reached other newsrooms, institutions and archives, where it was considered relevant to a broader conversation. For a young publication, these are meaningful markers: they show that work produced here can enter the international circulation of ideas and information.

Accreditations that brought us to the heart of major events

In its first year, Atlas News Romania secured accreditation for the B9 Summit at Cotroceni Palace, the NATO Summit in Ankara and the International Astronautical Congress in Antalya. These accreditations gave us access to events that, until then, we had followed through press releases and coverage from afar.

Behind each accreditation were preparation, documentation and hard work. There was also the emotion of being present at events where issues of security, international cooperation and the future of the region are discussed. For an independent Romanian newsroom, being there means more than gaining access: it means being ready to observe, ask questions and return with information and perspectives that are useful to readers.

Accreditation brings responsibility. It gave us the opportunity to take Atlas News’s work into the heart of these events and to represent a Romanian perspective in international settings.

From Bucharest to the MENA region, via Cairo

In May 2026, Atlas News Romania opened a permanent editorial office in Cairo. This was an important step for a publication that follows international developments and seeks to report on them from the perspective of people in the region.

The Cairo office brought the newsroom closer to the voices and realities of a region often covered from afar. Publishing in Romanian and English extended that reach: coverage of Romania can find readers in other countries, while perspectives from the region can offer new context to our readers.

Atlas News Romania’s website consistently records between 15,000 and 25,000 unique visitors a day, with a significant share of its audience coming from outside the country. They follow our analysis, interviews and reporting on geopolitics, diplomacy and international developments. Beyond the figures, each visit represents someone who chose to read, return or share an article.

A publication is built by a team

Anniversaries invite us to speak about results. This progress has been made possible by the editorial team and contributors who have worked on every article, as well as by the interviewees and other interlocutors who have given us their time, trust and openness.

We are grateful to the readers who discovered Atlas News Romania and continued to follow our work—to those who sent a message, shared an analysis or recommended an article to others. Through them, the publication has become more than a newsroom and a website: it has become a point of connection for people seeking to better understand the world and Romania’s place in it.

Readers’ trust must be earned with every article we publish: through rigorous reporting, the seriousness with which we approach each subject and respect for the time of those who read our work.

A year that strengthens our resolve to continue

Today, Atlas News Romania has an international presence, accreditation at major events, an editorial office in Cairo and work that has been cited or republished by other publications and institutions.

There is still much to learn and many doors to open. But our first year has shown us that there is room for a Romanian voice in international conversations when it is sustained by hard work, consistency and the trust of its readers.

Atlas News Romania turns one. Behind this anniversary are the articles written, the journeys made and the people who made it possible for the work of a newsroom that began in Bucharest to reach beyond the country’s borders. The story continues.
