Honoring Aboul Gheit and Hossam Zaki for distinguish Diplomatic Service to Joint Arab Action

In appreciation of the pivotal role of the Arab League, Libya’s Permanent Mission to the Arab League, headed by Ambassador Abdel Motalib Thabet, presented the Libyan Medal of Appreciation to Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Assistant Secretary-General Ambassador Hossam Zaki, in recognition of their service to joint Arab action over the past years.

The honoring ceremony took place during a high-level official event attended by a wide diplomatic and political gathering, including Arab ambassadors to Egypt, permanent representatives to the Arab League, ambassadors of several foreign countries, as well as prominent public figures and leading intellectual, cultural, and media figures from Egypt and Libya.

Aboul Gheit expressed his appreciation for the honor, noting the presence of numerous figures with whom he has maintained long-standing relations. He said the tribute reflects the depth of relations and the spirit of mutual respect, and acknowledged the role of Ambassador Abdel Motalib Thabet in managing Libya’s work within the League with efficiency and professionalism.

Ambassador Abdel Motalib Thabet said the ceremony was held in recognition of the distinguished diplomatic role played by Ahmed Aboul Gheit at the helm of the Arab League’s General Secretariat, and his continued efforts to consolidate joint Arab action, support Libya’s security and stability, and back the national political track aimed at achieving a comprehensive settlement that preserves Libya’s unity and sovereignty.

He praised the central role of the Arab League, which has continued in recent years to serve as a unifying platform for Arab dialogue, reinforcing its position as one of the main pillars of joint Arab action.

Thabet also commended the active role of Ambassador Hossam Zaki, noting that his diplomatic engagements and extensive political experience have contributed to advancing the Arab League’s efforts on Arab issues, foremost among them the Libyan file, and underscored the organization’s commitment to supporting political solutions and preserving the stability of member states.

He added that the ceremony reflects the strength of the fraternal and historic ties between Libya and Egypt, and highlights the close coordination and cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

For his part, Ambassador Hossam Zaki expressed appreciation for the Libyan initiative, saying it reflects the depth of relations and cooperation between Libya and the Arab League’s General Secretariat, and underscores the commitment to strengthening coordination and joint action among Arab states.
He praised Ambassador Abdel Motalib Thabet as a model of a professional diplomat capable of defending his country’s interests while safeguarding shared Arab interests.
