Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit emphasized the Arab League’s unwavering stance on the Sudanese crisis, foremost among which is preserving the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Sudan, and safeguarding its national institutions.
This came during the Secretary-General’s meeting today with Ramtane Lamamra, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Sudan, where they discussed the latest developments in the Sudanese situation and efforts to end the war and establish peace in the country.
In a statement, the Secretary-General affirmed the Arab League’s rejection of any external interference in Sudanese internal affairs, while simultaneously stressing support for launching a comprehensive and inclusive Sudanese national dialogue, considering it the fundamental way to end the crisis and restore stability.
The statement explained that the UN envoy reviewed his efforts during the meeting to bridge the gaps between the Sudanese parties, with the aim of stopping the war and saving the Sudanese people from the worsening humanitarian crisis, especially in light of the crippling food crisis.
The statement added that the meeting also touched on the consultative meeting to coordinate peace efforts and initiatives in Sudan, scheduled to be held tomorrow, Wednesday, in Cairo under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Amamra appreciated the importance of these meetings, which the Arab League had launched in July 2024, with the aim of unifying international and regional efforts towards the Sudanese crisis.
