The Consecration Ceremony of the National Cathedral Painting
According to the Romanian Patriarchate, the consecration ceremony of the painting of the National Cathedral, a representative edifice of Romanian spirituality, will take place on Sunday, according to the following liturgical program:
The Sanctification Program
- 07:30-10:00: Celebration of the Holy Liturgy by a council formed by three hierarchs from the Capital, 67 priests delegated by the dioceses of the Romanian Patriarchate and 12 deacons. This is a continuation of the consecration ceremony of the Cathedral Altar on November 25, 2018, which was officiated exclusively by the hierarchs.
- 10:15: Arrival at the National Cathedral of His Holiness Bartholomew I, Ecumenical Patriarch, and His Beatitude Father Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
- 10:30-12:30: The consecration service of the painting, officiated by the two Patriarchs, together with a council of 65 hierarchs, 70 priests and 12 deacons. At the end, the Act of consecration will be read.
Access to the Ceremony
Access to the Holy Liturgy and the service of consecration of the painting will be limited. Only official guests, numbering 2,500 people, will be accepted inside the Cathedral. Pilgrims from dioceses in the country, numbering 8,000, will be able to attend the service in the square in front of the Cathedral, watching it on the mounted screens.
Those outside the Cathedral fence will be able to watch the service on the screens installed in the vicinity of the ensemble. After the conclusion of the Holy Liturgy and the consecration service, access to the worship at the Holy Altar will be organized, starting with official guests and continuing with groups from the dioceses. The faithful from outside will have access to the worship line after 8:00 PM on October 26, 2025.
The Night Pilgrimage
Orthodox pilgrims will be able to worship at the Holy Altar of the National Cathedral on the following days, between October 27 and 31, 2025, including at night. On Monday, October 27, 2025, the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy will be celebrated by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I and Patriarch of Romania Daniel, on the occasion of the feast of Saint Demetrius the New, the Protector of Bucharest.
