The Embassy of Mexico in Egypt, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and the National Authority for Tunnels, opened the photography exhibition “Mexico 2026: Where Football Beats – Geographies of Mexican Football” at Cairo Metro’s Stadium Station on Sunday.
The exhibition takes visitors on a visual journey through the diverse settings of Mexican football, bringing the sport’s cultural footprint in Mexico closer to the Egyptian public through photography.
The display features locations where football thrives in Mexico, ranging from the major stadiums in the host cities for the FIFA World Cup 2026 to community pitches, streets, neighborhoods, and natural spaces where the game forms part of daily life.
Organizers said the exhibition aims to take Mexican photography and culture beyond traditional galleries. Hosting it inside Cairo’s metro network — one of Africa’s largest and busiest transport systems, used by millions daily — integrates art into everyday life and reaches a wider, more diverse audience.
Cairo Stadium Station was chosen for its proximity to Cairo International Stadium and its close connection to the city’s sporting life.
Héctor Ortega, Chargé d’Affaires of the Mexican Embassy in Egypt, said football, with its universal appeal, serves as an effective tool for bringing peoples closer and building bridges beyond linguistic and cultural differences. He added that the photographs highlight not only the game itself, but also the communities, landscapes, and stories that surround it.
“Through this initiative, the Embassy of Mexico reaffirms its commitment to promoting cultural diplomacy in public spaces, expanding public access to the arts, and presenting an image of Mexico that reflects its diversity, modernity, and deep connection to football,” Ortega said.
The exhibition “Mexico 2026: Where Football Beats” is open to the public free of charge at Cairo Metro’s Stadium Station until 22 July 2026.
