The Turkish Embassy in Cairo marked the beginning of 2026 by organizing a solidarity event for Palestinians, hosting 200 families and providing humanitarian assistance. The “Meeting with Palestinians” event, organized in cooperation with the Palestinian Embassy and the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), included the distribution of food and financial support, with the participation of officials, journalists, and artists.
Türkiye’s Ambassador to Cairo, Salih Mutlu Şen, emphasized Türkiye’s continued commitment to the welfare of Palestinians and to peace efforts, highlighting ongoing humanitarian aid and support for Gaza. The event was attended by approximately 100 journalists, social media influencers, as well as Egyptian and Palestinian artists.
Ambassador Şen expressed Türkiye’s solidarity with Palestinian victims in 2026, describing it as a pivotal year for Gaza and beyond. He noted that Türkiye, together with Egypt, the United States, and Qatar, played a key role in the peace plan signed in Sharm El-Sheikh on October 13, 2025, and reaffirmed Ankara’s determination to continue efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in Gaza.
Şen also conveyed his gratitude to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the Egyptian people. He further noted that approximately 520,000 people participated in a solidarity march on Istanbul’s Galata Bridge to draw attention to the situation in Palestine.
The ambassador highlighted Türkiye’s ongoing humanitarian assistance, including the recent arrival of the 19th aid ship at the port of El Arish. “The embassy has so far hosted approximately 1,500 Palestinians from Gaza as part of its solidarity and assistance activities. Material and moral support, including healthcare, food aid, and rent assistance, will continue in cooperation with Turkish and Egyptian official institutions and civil society organizations,” Şen stated.
Officials from IHH are prepared to provide assistance to Palestinians who have lost limbs and require orthotics and prosthetics. Türkiye’s Minister of Health, Professor Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu, inspected the Nasser Institute Hospital, where Palestinian patients are receiving treatment, underscoring Türkiye’s commitment to Palestinian healthcare. Memişoğlu reaffirmed Türkiye’s pledge to continue medical support for Gaza, reinforcing the country’s role as a steadfast supporter of Palestinian well-being.
