Romanian Minister of Culture András István Demeter affirmed Romania’s pride in strengthening cultural cooperation with Egypt, represented by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, and in participating as Guest of Honor at the Cairo International Book Fair.

He noted that Egypt represents an important gateway for Romanian culture to the Arab world, while Romania serves as an effective window for introducing Egyptian culture to Europe.

In exclusive statements to Atlas News, Demeter expressed his pleasure at visiting Egypt, stressing the Romanian Ministry of Culture’s commitment to transforming this cooperation into sustainable and long-term partnerships.

The Romanian Minister of Culture pointed out that both countries provide significant institutional support for culture and the book industry, while underlining the need for additional backing for cultural actors, intellectuals, and their literary works.

He emphasized that cultural challenges are similar in both countries, adding that culture and the arts are essential tools for the progress and civilization of nations, as well as bridges that connect cultures and peoples. Demeter also expressed his deep appreciation for Egyptian civilization and his delight at visiting the Grand Egyptian Museum.

He added:
“During my visit, I explored the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding aimed at deepening and expanding frameworks for joint cultural cooperation. These include opera, music, theatre, visual arts, and translation, as well as the exchange of artistic expertise and the implementation of joint cultural projects between relevant institutions in both countries.”

As part of his visit, the Romanian Minister of Culture met with Ahmed Fouad Henou, Minister of Culture of Egypt. The meeting focused on ways to enhance bilateral cultural cooperation between Egypt and Romania.

The visit coincided with Romania’s participation as Guest of Honor at the Cairo International Book Fair, currently in its 57th edition. The event was inaugurated by Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
