The “Turkish Textile Atlas – Textile Memory” exhibition officially opened at the Council of Europe building in Strasbourg, France, hosted by the Turkish delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
The exhibition runs until January 30, coinciding with the Assembly’s winter session.
The “Textile Memory” exhibition aims to promote Turkey’s rich textile traditions on the international stage. It features colorful textiles made from natural fibers and local raw materials, produced with full consideration for environmental sustainability, as well as miniature weaving machines and traditional production tools.
A speech was delivered by Mrs. Emine Erdoğan, wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, during the event, which was organized under her patronage as part of the “Turkish Textile Atlas” project. In her message, she expressed her delight at presenting Anatolia’s centuries-old textile heritage to the international community, highlighting its historical depth and artistic richness. She emphasized the importance of preserving cultural heritage and fostering dialogue between societies, explaining that such events help keep shared human values alive.
At the opening ceremony, Björn Berg, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe, highlighted Turkey’s cultural diversity and its rich tradition of symbolic motifs. Fatih Dönmez, head of the Turkish delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, stated that the exhibition aligns with Turkey’s principles of cultural heritage preservation and environmental responsibility.
Zeynep Yıldız, a member of the Turkish delegation to the Council of Europe and a member of parliament from the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in Ankara, said the exhibition represents a fusion of diverse cultural interactions spanning centuries, reflecting Turkish culture and aligning with the founding principles of the Council of Europe.
The exhibition, attended by a large number of parliamentarians and invited guests, attracted significant interest from visitors.
