Bolojan denies Drulă’s sister-in-law’s involvement in the government: „We don’t do personnel files”
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan responded to the question about the appointment of Alina Gîrbea, Cătălin Drulă’s sister-in-law, as Secretary of State in the Ministry of Investments and European Projects. Bolojan stated that „Ms. Gîrbea is the USR’s proposal for Secretary of State” and that she has been legally verified, having „no problems whatsoever.”
He emphasized: „We do not file personnel or family files. From this point of view, the Government has done the right thing.” The Prime Minister was also asked about Alina Gîrbea’s request for reimbursement of accommodation and transportation expenses, in the context of budgetary austerity. Bolojan specified that there are legal provisions that allow a secretary of state to benefit from an official residence.
Alina Gîrbea was appointed Secretary of State in MIPE, and in her wealth declaration she specified that she earned over 100,000 euros from the European Commission. She owns an inherited house in Hunedoara County and an apartment in Belgium, bought together with her husband, Adrian-Florin Păun, who received over 45,000 euros in 2024 from his company in Belgium.
Gîrbea requested Minister Dragoș-Nicolae Pîslaru to approve the settlement of expenses, noting that she does not own a personal home in Bucharest. In her request, she stated: “I declare on my own responsibility that I do not own, in exclusive ownership or in co-ownership, any real estate intended for housing in the municipality of Bucharest.”
Minister Pîslaru stated that his assessment is based exclusively on Alina Gîrbea’s professional competence and not on family relationships, saying: „It is not my job to make such analyses.” He confirmed that the ministry had taken over the appointment made by the prime minister and assured that Gîrbea has the capacity to fulfill her duties.
